New method of dealing with allergies – molecular diagnostics
Allergic diseases are the third largest disease in Ukraine. The prognosis of physicians is such that by 2030, every third inhabitant of the country will be disturbed by allergic reactions. The main factors that cause allergies are heredity and poor ecology, but many people do not attach much importance to the severity of the consequences of allergies and do not go to doctors.
In fact, the earlier this ailment is diagnosed and the correct treatment method chosen, the less harm to the body, especially childish. For the successful treatment of allergic reactions, it is necessary to undergo a detailed diagnosis in order to know what kind of irritant causes the body to react and how to treat the allergy in each individual case.
What are the main methods for diagnosing allergies?
To identify the allergen (irritant or the whole group), 2 main analyzes are carried out: skin tests and a blood test for immunoglobulin E (lgE). A small amount of a preparation containing the suspected allergen is injected into the patient’s skin layer and, using an inflammatory reaction on the human skin, the allergist (immunologist) makes conclusions about an allergic reaction to a particular irritant. A blood test for lgE will show the presence of antibodies that cause an allergic reaction.
But often, allergies in humans can be caused by substances that are not included in the group of irritants used in skin tests, or a person reacts to a whole group of irritants. The molecular diagnostic method will help to understand which biochemical component causes the allergic reaction.
What is the advantage of molecular diagnosis of allergies?
The method of molecular diagnostics allows to determine the “same allergen molecule”, to which an allergic reaction occurs in humans. Specialist using this technique determines the allergen component, which can combine several substances that cause a reaction in a patient with allergies. Therefore, the method of molecular diagnosis of allergy is the most accurate.
Using this diagnostic method, it is possible to identify in detail the type of allergic reaction in a person: monoallergic and / or intersecting allergic. The first type is an allergic reaction to some single irritant, the second type is the reaction of the human body to various allergens. Such a thoroughly detailed analysis will help to prescribe the most effective therapy, and most importantly, to know exactly the “originators” of allergy and to avoid contact with allergens in the future.
Advantages of molecular diagnostics in food allergies
This diagnostic method is especially relevant for the detection of food allergens, since it allows you to accurately identify potentially allergic products that are potentially dangerous to humans. Based on this method, the doctor can conclude which group (or specific product) poses a small danger to a person with allergies, which products belong to products with increased danger, and which products are very dangerous.
Ignoring the action of allergens and persistent allergic reactions without the necessary treatment and excluding contact with the allergen ultimately lead to the main complication of allergy – the development of bronchial asthma. Therefore, it is important to promptly diagnose allergies and find which substances cause a negative reaction in the body.
