How to strengthen the immune system and why do we need immunity

March 1 is not only the beginning of spring, but also World Immunity Day. This day was chosen by the world community not by chance: after all, with the onset of spring, the functions of a weakened immune system are not working at full capacity. Understanding what the immune system is, how it works, why it is for a person, we will be more motivated to strengthen the immune system.
How does the human immune system
The immune system consists of several human organs, tissues and cells, the mutual functioning of which protects the body from various infections (viruses, bacteria, fungi) and other foreign substances. When the immune system weakens, the probability of getting sick increases. A person becomes more vulnerable both to the bacteria that we “catch” in the external environment, and to our own. Indeed, within our body is also pathogenic microflora. Failure of the immune system can lead to the development of autoimmune diseases: then the body does not recognize its own healthy cells and begins to destroy them.
The immune system in its methods of functioning is similar to the nervous system: it is also directed to the central and peripheral organs. Organs and their tissues respond to various signals of the body, are endowed with a variety of receptors and specific memory. The organs of the immune system include:
central organs: red bone marrow
peripheral: lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, thymus, appendix
The key place in the immune system is leukocytes – white blood cells. They are in contact with foreign bodies that have entered the body, and are involved in the formation of antibodies to fight infection.
Signs of weakened immunity
If you experience frequent colds, constant fatigue is felt, muscles and joints ache, sleep is disturbed, headaches and allergic skin rashes occur, then the immune system signals malfunctions. A long-term catarrhal disease is already a consequence of the fact that immunity could not overcome a virus that entered the body, etc. The lack of immunity would have led to the fact that the human body would perceive each “ordinary” infection as a completely new disease, gradually losing its defenses to fight the disease. What actually happens in patients with AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome): the body ceases to resist diseases and a person dies from them. The immune system remembers any contact with a virus, bacterium or allergen and produces protective antibodies to them. The immunity that a person has acquired in a lifetime as the diseases they transmit or during vaccination is called acquired. A more rare type of immunity is congenital, in which a person inherits genetic immunity to a number of diseases.
What factors weaken the immune system
Often we ourselves harm our immune system and undermine the body’s defenses. So, the following factors can weaken the immune system:
long stay in stress, depression
diets, fasting, junk food
lack of vitamins and trace elements in the body
strong physical exertion
injuries or surgeries
poor environmental situation
bad habits: smoking, alcohol, low physical activity
uncontrolled fascination with medications
untreated chronic diseases
chronic sleep deprivation
How to strengthen the immune system
“Magic pill” for the development of strong immunity does not exist: of course, vitamin complexes are important and must be taken. But firstly, on the recommendation of a doctor, and secondly – one can not do with vitamins alone. Positive factors affect the body’s defenses, any factors associated with a healthy lifestyle. Full recreation, sports, balanced nutrition – the key to strong immunity.
Do not forget to treat carefully both your psyche and the psyche of the people around you. And, however banal it may sound – observe both personal hygiene and keep your dwelling clean. Often, the infection enters the body through the skin, with unwashed or poorly thermally processed food or with dirty hands.
